Proto-Pasta, a subsidiary of ProtoPlant, is working to change the filaments we traditionally use for Fused Deposition Modelling and Fused Filament Fabrication 3D Printers.
Having recently completed shipping orders for their Kickstarter campaign, Proto-Pasta filaments are now available for sale.
Carbon Fibre PLA is a polymer of PLA resin infused with 15% by weight of carbon fibre. It offers higher impact resistance and is stiffer than conventional PLA. Carbon Fibre PLA is also lighter than conventional PLA and 3D prints parts which are incredibly solid. After extrusion, the material appears a dark glossy black which sparkles under direct light.
High Temperature PLA is a custom compound of PLA infused with a nucleating agent that promotes crystallisation of the print. Products 3D printed with High Temperature PLA need to be soaked in hot water for a few minutes to allow for crystallisation of the nucleating agent - this creates a product with higher heat resistance than conventional PLA.
Carbon Fibre PLA and High Temperature PLA is available at the 3D printing Materials Store brought to you by Mēkā. Also available are PLA, ABS, NinjaFlex, Laywood and Laybrick.
